About Puebla

Puebla is more than 475 years old founded on April 16th 1531, is the forth biggest city in Mexico and it is the door to the southern region of the country. It is the second safest City in Mexico, and it is also the academic and Cultural center of the Country, Puebla is situated 120 Km from the capital in a Valley surrounded by the tallest volcanoes in the country, where forests and fertile cropland, rivers, lakes, springs and reservoirs complete the landscape. Puebla constitutes one of the most important industrial, commercial, and financial spots in the country due to the fact that is the strict way to go to the north and to the south of the Mexican Republic. In addition, the excellent welcome and hospitality that the habitants of the city offer, the traditional food, the weather and the colonial architecture make it an enchanting city.

Puebla is candidate city to be the Headquarters of the FTAA (Free Trade America’s Agreement), the Plan Puebla-Panama that has the purpose the direct cooperation among 9 countries in different areas such as development, democracy, etc. Mexico as leader.
These new initiatives have allowed to Puebla to get a new vision of this XXI century.
The majestic city of Puebla as well as others in the state quickly began to grow with the art from the Indians (First Nations) of the region and the resourcefulness of the Spanish. With a new wave of contemporary architecture and all its modern infrastructure and communications, Puebla is the second cosmopolitan city in the country just after Mexico City.

Many social movements that shaped what Mexico is today were born and had a voice in Puebla such as the Battle of 5 de Mayo in 1862, even celebrated at the White House in the United States.

Puebla’s Jewels

The Historical Dowtown region of the City of Puebla, counts with more than 2600 buildings of great historical, architecture and artistic value was declared by UNESCO in 1987, a cultural Heritage.

The Pyramid in Cholula, because of its base area is the largest in the world, the pyramid dedicated to the rain God Chiconanuiquiahuitl sits on a 450 meters base. It is formed by seven super imposed Pyramids and there are 8 km of tunnels, only a small part can be walked trough. It was consider in ancient time as the largest spiritual center of the Aztecs.

The colonial Architecture of Puebla is a cultural treasure. An example among many is the Cathedral with its high towers standing 79.93 meters high, the towers are the taller in the American Continent of such constructions. The Main theater in Puebla is the First created in Latin America and is still open and working receiving the best Artist of our Country

Close to the Historical Downtown of the City are the Internationally renowed Amparo and Viceroy Art Museums, The Palafoxiana Library, the Loreto and Guadalupe Forts. The Legendary Artist Districts with Workshops for painters and sculptors.
